Once a garage starts seeing more EVs, the question shows up at the counter. How much to fill it? Is it cheaper than petrol? The honest answer is: it depends on the tariff and whether they charge at home or on a rapid.
Home unit rates in the UK are often around 24p to 28p per kWh. A public rapid is commonly 55p to 80p. The same 40 kWh top-up can be under a tenner at home and over £25 on the motorway.
